There are
lots of modded games out there; however, we just need to select a few of the
best that stand out throughout the history of modding video games.
Game mods
have grown in quite a reputation over the past generation, as modding became
less technical and more encouraged, leading some of the best user-made
creations and even be championed by the game's original developers.
Putting
things into perspective, and grasp of how huge modding has become, let’s take a
look at the lists of the best games modded out there and rank them accordingly.
All thanks
to the modding community for giving us the ideas and insights in creating these
lists. We know much time and efforts you have dedicated to
these passionate projects can rival the base game itself at times and the
following large-scale mods are great examples alike.
Top 10 Games With the Best Mods Available
1. Witcher 3 (Enhanced Edition and Ghost Mode)
Have
you completed Witcher 3 before? Well, there are two mods that are exceptionally
well, Witcher 3 Enhanced Edition and Ghost mode.
Enhanced Edition- An overhaul mod that focuses on
immersion; not only does it change combat, but it changes most things from the
level system, alchemy to how the loot works. Well, there a lot of changes with
the stuff that is utterly different from the vanilla game.
Ghost Mode - An overhaul that tweaks the vanilla
game, so it can keep closer to the base game as it can be, but providing enough
changes to make it a new set of experiences.
2. GTA V (Roleplay Servers)
GTA
is still one of the most popular games played at present since it was out in
2013. Especially since GTA Online is continuously updating with a plethora of
new content. You wanna try something new? Well, FiveM provides a whole new unique
experience in GTA Roleplay servers.
These
servers host is one of the most heavily modded versions of GTA, where
role-playing is necessary to play. So far, it's a very immersive experience
because you become that character, you have to voice that character, and
traffic laws are a thing that needs to be obeyed, as jail time is also a real
thing. There are also role-playing police on every server.
3. 3. Dark Souls 3 (Item Randomizer/Irregulator/StraySouls)
Ah,
Dark Souls 3, developed by FromSoftware, this notoriously hard game caused many
players on raged eternally over attempting to beat this game. However, is there
any way to make it even harder for yourself? In fact, there are three ways, and
when combined, altogether will create an entirely different run through
entirely but keeping the vanilla game the same.
Item
Randomizer mod, every item in the game is randomized. Next is the Irregulator
that changes stats of all equipment in the game, but also the moveset of said
weapons – a club could have the attacks of a rapier. Lastly, StraySouls can
randomize enemy placement and the amount that appears, in order for the first
enemy in the game could be end game one.
4. Stardew Valley (Stardew Valley Expanded)
Indeed
an incredible achievement, made possible by one person, Eric Barone, and he's
still updating the game with plenty of content though. Eric knows mods are one
the most important thing in the gaming industry, so he goes out of his way to
help them out.
We knew that the base game has an abundance of content already, but those who have sunk thousands of hours into this farming sim might want something new and different. FlashShifter created Stardew Valley Expanded mod, which adds new locations, new village, characters, plus loads more additions. Indeed mods are the way forward for those who are looking for something new.
5. 5. Garry's Mod (Prop Hunt)
Garry's
Mod is a game yet not a game. Sounds confusing right? Playing the base title,
the player has no objectives; however, it provides a world that can be freely
manipulated. The game’s platform allows gamers to create their own user-created
content, which means they can play a game within a game. Anyways, there are
thousands of mods available for Garry's Mod.
Prop
Hunt is one of the best mods out there, it is a modified version of hiding and
seeks, where the hiders or Props disguise themselves as objects within the map
and attempts to blend in within the environment. It's extremely entertaining
because the seekers have to find the props and kill them within the given time.
6. 6. The Witcher 2: Assassins Of Kings (Farewell Of The White Wolf)
The
Witcher 2 is indeed one of the greatest games; however, if you really want to
experience more stories of Geralt in the same engine you must download the
Farewell of the White Wolf mod. This fan-made expansion serves as an epilogue
to The Witcher series, with the story that focuses on Geralt's marriage to
Yennefer.
This
mode lacks voice acting; however, people who can overlook this one particular
gripe can install the Farewell of the White Wolf mod to relish another
well-made chapter in the life of Geralt of Rivia.
7. 7. Doom 3 (The Dark Mod)
Players
decided to use the engine of Doom 3 to create a mod that will cherish thief as
one of the most beloved stealth titles around in the best way possible.
Indeed,
the Dark Mod is an excellent stealth video game that uses the id Tech 4 engine
to craft an experience that serves as a great homage to the Thief series while
simultaneously being a great experience in its own right.
8. 8. Knights Of The Old Republic II: The Sith Lords (The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod (TSLRCM))
Star
Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was a great title indeed, and fans just
couldn't wait to play the sequel in the series that would allow them to play
out another chapter in the series. But it turns out Knights of the Old Republic
II: The Sith Lords a disappointment, this is because Obsidian Entertainment
failed to integrate everything it wanted into the overall experience.
Thankfully,
TSLRCM saves the day as it integrates most of this cut content into the overall
game while polishing the experience as well. Anyone who wants to enjoy KOTOR II
must have this without any compromises.
9. 9. Half-Life 2 (NeoTokyo)
NeoTokyo
is a very excellent mod that is quite a blast to play through for several
reasons. A tactical multiplayer mod for Half-Life 2 that ends up being wildly
enjoyable in every way, shape, and form.
The
multiplayer face-offs that occur in this mod are quite intense and
entertaining, with the cyberpunk setting and backstory of the game also being
quite amazing in its own right. Recently, a demo for a single-player campaign
set in the NeoTokyo universe has been released.
10. Portal 2 (Portal Stories: Mel)
Portal
2 is one of the greatest and phenomenal games of all time, and it also features
great modding communities that have created some of the most amazing levels and
experiences of their own as well.
Portal
Stories: Mel is perhaps the best of the lot compared to all community mods that
have released for this game. Featuring full voice acting and some
challenging-yet-fun puzzles, this free community expansion mod is the best
thing that players can try out after finishing Portal 2.
